Legend Design System

One system, 30+ brands. Maintaining and scaling Legend's iGaming design systems, from brand themes to a single multi-tenant platform.

Senior Product Designer · 2024 – 2026

Problem

30+ casino brands, each with its own style. Every new brand added more themes and tokens to manage, and more risk of inconsistency.

Impact

One system powering every brand. New brands could launch faster with a ready-made theme, while components and tokens stayed consistent across all sites.

Overview

Two years maintaining and scaling the design system behind Legend's casino review sites, helping more than 30 brands look unique while sharing the same foundations, tokens and components

Legend runs casino review sites across the UK, US, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and more, helping players compare casinos and find the right bonus. Each brand has its own identity, but all run on one shared system. I maintained it day to day, onboarded new brands, created tokens and components, and contributed to every major evolution, up to the new multi-tenant system.

Component & Documentations

Every component came with its own documentation

When the review sites needed something new, I designed the component in Figma using the design system’s tokens, then tested it on every brand theme. Once it was ready, I documented its variants, usage rules and tokens, like the example below, so designers and developers could use it on their own.

Tokens System

Shared foundations, brand-specific identity.

Non-themable tokens are the foundations every brand shares: spacing, sizes, radius, borders and typography. Their values never change between brands, only between desktop, tablet and mobile.

Themable tokens carry each brand’s identity: colours, surfaces, buttons, badges and charts. Every brand is a mode, so the same component simply picks up different values.

I maintained this system for two years and kept it growing. I set up new brand modes, mapping each brand’s palette onto the existing tokens, and created new tokens whenever components or products needed them. Brands with similar styles could share the same logic, while very different brands kept their own look without breaking the structure.

MTDS: Multi-Tenant Design System

The final evolution: one system for every brand

MTDS was the last and biggest step in the system’s journey. As the number of brands grew, so did the gap between their styles, and some departments still needed their own separate design systems. MTDS brought everything together: every casino brand, including very different ones, now runs on one shared library.

What changed. Tokens went deeper, down to component level, so buttons, tabs, inputs, badges and search fields could be styled for each brand without touching the components themselves. Typography, radius and effects became themable too, giving brands real personality rather than just a colour swap. Switching brand became as simple as switching mode, which made it easy to roll out the same feature across every site at once.

My role. MTDS was a team effort across Legend’s design team. I helped extend the tokens, rebuild and theme components across brands, and write the documentation that explains how the system works.
